“There’s got to be a way to shut this thing down!” D’ur exclaimed as he frantically pushed buttons on the control pad. Gamona quickly shoved him aside.

“Don’t be a fool!” she chided him. “You might set it off!”

“So how do we shut it down then? D’ur shot back. “I don’t see you doing anything.”

“I’ve been thinking. You should try it sometime.” The warrior woman’s fingers danced over the console as she searched for a way to power down the machine. After a few minutes she slammed her palms down on the keypad in frustration. “This machine has gathered all the energy from the star that this planet used to orbit. The molten core of the planet itself has been siphoned. I cannot even calculate how much energy that is. This machine cannot be shut off without atomizing what remains of this planet, possibly this solar system,.”

D’ur whistled at the amount of power required for such a feat. “So any minute now we’re going to have to face a Singularity Rider created from the souls of the most physically powerful race the universe has known,” D’ur summarized. “They told me there would be days like this in basic.”

The two ducked as chunks of earth nearly took their heads off. The battle between Gamma Ray Gary and Lord War showed no signs of ebbing in its ferocity. When their weapons clashed energy sparked so bright that D’ur could barely stand to look at them.

“That’s a lot of energy those two are putting out too, “D’ur Acell commented. He stroked his chin whiskers for a moment, then snapped his fingers. “Hey, that gives me an idea!”

* * * * *

“Yield!” snarled Lord War as Gary parried another blow with Ljouis. “You can’t keep this up much longer, Equinite!”

“I can keep this up as long as it takes!” Gary retorted, surging forward to connect with a devastating headbutt. “I can feel the power of Ausgard flowing through me, giving me strength when I fear I may falter!”

Lord War reeled from the blow to his forehead, then came back with a feint of his blade. Gary fell for it, and Lord War slammed his open hand into Gary’s jaw. “The power of one little pantheon cannot hope to compare to mine! The very cosmos is in galactic conflict and I draw power from it all!”

A green blur interrupted their combat, ripping the sword from Lord War’s hands. Gamona pointed it at Lord War, though it took both hands to hold such a massive broadsword.

“Gamona, what are you doing?!” Gary moved to stand between Gamona and Lord War but a voice spoke in his head, stopping him.

Hey buddy, pardon the intrusion, but I think we’ve got a plan.

D’ur? But how can you be speaking in my head?

Programmed the bracelet to broadcast my thoughts to all Equinites. Since you’re the only one left I’m not too worried about this message being intercepted.

I do not know if I can best him, D’ur. His power is great, and it is with only great effort I fight off the fatigue that threatens to take my limbs.

Don’t sweat it big guy, I’ve got a plan. Just let Gamona do her thing while I fill you in.

“My, you are a spry one,” said Lord War as he faced Gamona. “I had thought for certain you were dead. I suppose we’ll count that first time as a practice round, but make no mistake my dear, I will make it certain that your body will truly be lifeless when I’m done with-urk!” Lord War looked down at his own blade piercing his torso.

“You talk too much,” Gamona snarled as she ripped the blade free. She swung it again, but without the element of surprise Lord War easily intercepted the strike with the armoured plate that made up his gauntlet. Gamona dropped the sword, never expecting such a tactic to work again, and lunged forward to punch Lord War in the gaping would she had just created.

A powerful backhand blow knocked her away even as Lord War willed his wound to close. Gamona allowed a savage smirk.

Lord War fell back and howled in pain as the Avabomb she had lifted off one of the dead soldiers exploded in his abdomen. He struggled to his feet, and Gamona noted his wound closed significantly slower than the last time.

“You will die,” spat Lord War, all traces of amusement gone, murder in his eyes.

“One day, yes. But not this day.” Gamona reached behind her ear and pressed a small stud concealed there.

Exu the Doomherald blinked in beside her. “Wow, I’m getting some serious vibes off this place.” Exu turned to find the source glowering at him. “Oh, hey. Don’t you owe me poker money?”

    “Doomherald!” Lord War snarled.

“Lord War!” Exu replied in mocking tones. “Long time no see.”

“You have no call to be here, God of Murder. This battle falls clearly within my domain.”

“Y’see, that’s the thing,” began Exu, almost apologetically. “I’m currently, let’s say, between jobs. I’ve got a prospective new employer lined up, and as an act of good faith he asked me to perform a small chauffeur job for him. Toodles.”

In a flash Exu and Gamona vanished.

“Now that was unexpected,” D’ur muttered to himself as he hovered high above the deity.

“No!” cursed Lord War. “I will have my revenge Gamona!”

While Lord War ranted D’ur Acell swooped in and launched a barrage of yellow plasma blasts, peppering the god of war with a barrage that exploded on contact. It wasn’t long before Lord War couldn’t be seen from the massive clouds of dust kicked up by the onslaught.

Lord War strode forth unscathed, his sword retrieved.

“Oh yeah, my Bracelet won’t work on anything that starts with the letter ‘G’, which includes a god I guess.” Despite his words D’ur didn’t seem worried.

“I will make short work of you Flashlight,” snarled Lord War.

“Actually, I’m just the last part of your distraction. If you don’t mind, I’m going to go and take cover now. Later!” D’ur quickly zipped away, leaving only Gary to face Lord War.

“Your allies abandon you, Equinite!” Lord War crowed. “Do you not think it wise to flee as well?”

Gary stood before the giant machine that would bring forth the Doomwraith. “D’ur does not flee, villain. He has shown bravery here this day that I shall never forget!” Gamma Ray Gary smiled viciously. “No, D’ur is observing something he likes to call minimum safe distance. D’ur, now!”

At Gary’s command yellow energy poured from D’ur’s bracelet into the giant machine, merging with the red energy already flickering to cause an orange glow around he entire machine. Sparks flew as the machine tried to absorb the energy.

“All you will accomplish is accelerating the creation of the Singularity Rider!” Lord War warned them. “You do the Parody Master’s work for him! A lone Yellow Flashlight cannot overload the machine!”

The last son of Equin ignored Lord War. He grasped Ljouis at either end and held the weapon high above his head. The dark sky grew even darker as clouds formed and lightning flashed. Rain began to fall, mixing with the blood spilled upon the cracked ground.

“We have done this before Equinite. Your lightning cannot stop me!”

Gary began to swing the enchanted weapon above his head, whirling it faster and faster until it was naught but a blur. The lightning crackled overhead, the thunder coming as quickly as the electricity. Gary caught it all on his bat, channeling it, gathering it. The wind howled, holding Lord War at bay, whipping the helmet from Gary’s head. Gary let forth a truly joyous laugh as the storm washed over him.

D’ur wished he had the energy to spare to create an umbrella.

The ground shook with the thunder as the storm raged. New fissures formed as the ground tore itself apart. The corpses of the slain Avawarriors bounced around like corn in a popcorn machine.

Lord War braced himself, determined to show Gary once and for all that he could take anything the Equinite could throw at him.

So he was surprised when Gary turned and let the blast loose into the heart of the Doomwraith machine. He was even more surprised when the machine, designed to channel the power of a star and more, exploded.

D’ur screamed as he redirected as much of the blast as he could towards Gary. He was using the power released to power his Bracelet, allowing it to supercharge his Bracelet far beyond maximum tolerance. D’ur ignored the Bracelet’s warnings and pushed on.

As the explosion mingled with the storm Gary channeled all the energy through Ljouis, not even attempting to absorb it, but rather redirect it in a focused blast at Lord War. His skin blistered and burned, the mane of hair on his head instantly burned away.

Lord War screamed as he failed to block the attack. He tried to stand against it, he even managed a step forward, but even he couldn’t stand up to such power. He roared in rage as he failed to stand against the power, though no one could hear him over the force of the explosion.

Lord War evaporated before Gary’s eyes. It was the last thing Gary saw before the power consumed him in a final flash.

Nothing remained of the dead planet Maxell. Were there anyone there to see what had transpired all they would see would be a weak yellow bubble flickering, then failing.

To be concluded! Hopefully for real this time!
